Boost uptime with MySQL clustering solutions
![]() |
Clustering is fast and easy with UKFast.
There are two ways to help boost your MySQL server uptime - database replication and clustering.
Access to information is a business critical need, clustering from UKFast helps to protect, recover and ensure availability of your data in the event of a disaster.
Clustering increases your database performance as data is stored in the server's main memory (RAM) and not on the hard disk, so transactions are processed exceptionally fast.
Benefits of clustering:
- Distributed architecture with no single point of failure.
- 99.999% hardware availability.
- Load is shared between all live servers.
- Spread risk across data centres.
- High performance that only a main memory database can deliver.
- Extremely fast automatic failover.
- Fast and easy to scale.

Clustering requires three or more servers (also known as nodes) which are configured to operate as a single virtual MySQL server. A typical configuration would have two load balanced web/mysql servers and a third MySQL server, known as a management node.
MySQL clustering provides no single point failure with the added advantage of geographical flexibility. You can opt to have your environment clustered across data centres using shared or private IP LAN or VLAN for additional redundancy, if required.
Scalability is a key concern for many companies predicting fast or future growth. Clustered solutions can be scaled quickly by simply dropping in further front-end servers behind the load balancer, and adding database servers to the cluster.
