UKFast is delighted to sponsor one of the world’s most popular science podcasts, the Naked Scientists. This is a media-savvy group of physicians and researchers from Cambridge University who use radio, live lectures, and the Internet to strip science down to its bare essentials, and promote it to the general public.
Dr Chris Smith of the Naked Scientists recently won the celebrated Joshua Philips Award for Innovation in Science Engagement at the Manchester Science Festival, 2007. This award aims to encourage science communicators to come up with creative ideas which inspire people of all ages about science.
Clearly communication is no problem for the Naked Scientists, as every week the show is broadcast to the six million avid listeners of BBC Radio East and Radio Five Live. The show also has an international web following who tune in to listen to Dr Smith and his entertaining sidekicks interview renowned scientists and researchers from all over the world.
Due to this high demand, the Naked Scientists enlisted the help of UKFast to put together the website, allowing the radio show, lectures, and much more to be accessible world-wide.
Dr Smith said at the Manchester Science Festival: “It’s just blown me away actually. But I must say- and we haven’t been paid to say this- we couldn’t have done any of this without UKFast’s help. We think that this month, October 2007, is going to be the first month that we actually break the 10million hits in a month mark.”
